10 Self Care Tips

1. Start With Your Space

Maintaining a clean space can be vital to one’s mental health. Many people feel added stress from living a cluttered lifestyle, and can find great relief by cleaning it. Cleaning and organizing your home, although tedious, can be a task to feel therapeutic to complete, and leave you with a refreshed mindset. A good spring cleaning never hurt anybody.

2. Finish Miscellaneous Chores

If you aren’t in the mood, or don’t have the time to give your house a full top-down deep cleaning, completing little household tasks will make you productive and leave you feeling productive. Making your bed, catching up on your laundry, and organizing your desk are simple things you can do to feel like you have been productive.

3. Organize Your Mind

Assessing where you’re at in life is important. Being proud of where you are yet having goals for where you’d like to be is crucial to success. Evaluate your emotions at this point in time. Write out attainable goals for yourself, and make to-do lists for your daily life. Daily to-do lists and planners can save you a lot of stress, and leave you feeling productive when you can look back and see what you have accomplished this week. If you’re looking for a way to be productive this summer, Dream Mentorship’s 7-week virtual summer program can help you by providing you with the professional development skills you need to reach your career goals.

4. Exercise

Some form of exercise daily is not only vital for your physical health, but for your mental one as well. Taking a walk, going for a run, biking, or doing some at-home workouts will leave your body feeling great. Certain activities like yoga or meditation can engage your mind in a spiritual way and can help you relax. Headspace is a great app if you’ve never meditated before and would like to give it a go. Overall, working out is a good way to relieve some stress and do something for your benefit.

5. Eat Clean

Although eating healthy may just seem important for your physical health, it can also impact your mood. Eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (along with the occasional sweets you are craving) can make you feel light and healthy-- especially after a workout. Giving your body what it needs, paired with what your sweet tooth wants in moderation, will keep you feeling good.

6. Be Creative

Creativity as a form of expression is a cathartic, enjoyable activity. Although it may not seem productive in terms of your job, it is productive for your mental health and enjoyment purposes. Whether it be drawing, painting, writing, or dancing to some good music, taking some time to be creative can allow you to have some fun and feel true joy.

7. Have a Spa Night

Doing an at-home spa night can make you feel relaxed and taken care of. Take a bath and use a bath bomb or some bath oils. Light some candles and put on your favorite relaxing music. If you have purchased a face mask, use it. Lush has some great face masks that really work! If not, there are plenty of at-home recipes that are easy to make and will leave your skin feeling refreshed. You can even give yourself a manicure and pedicure to pamper yourself. Allowing yourself to decompress will leave you refreshed and inspired to get back to work.

8. Spend Time With Your Loved Ones

Making it a point to speak with those you care about will brighten your day. Calling your parents can seem like a tedious task in theory, but will likely leave you feeling happy and grateful for them. Even just text your friends and catch up. It will remind you of all of the people in your life that care about you, and you will feel so loved.

9. Read

Reading is such a crucial activity to engage your mind and temporarily transport you into another world. You will learn something new no matter your age, and you have the power to choose what you learn about. Whether you enjoy fictional pieces like sci-fi, crime fiction, poetry, or nonfiction books such as self-help books and memoirs, there will always be something out there for you to love. Reading at night can help relax you and clear your mind before bed.

10. Get Some Rest

Finally, although it is common knowledge that our bodies need sleep, many of us do not get the rest we need. That being said, prioritizing getting 8 hours of rest as frequently as possible is a simple yet effective way to care for yourself. Sleep allows you to process your emotions and recharge. Through proper time management, we could all do this and allow our bodies to wake up feeling refreshed and motivated to have a great day.
