This Started Because I Needed Help Too

The story of Dream Mentorship—and why no woman should have to chase her dreams alone

Our Story

This is the Dream Mentorship story, and we are just getting started.

2016: A $10,000 Price Tag

I was lost.

A newlywed. An immigrant in a new city. Applying to PhD programs and completely overwhelmed. I needed someone to guide me, but I had no idea where to turn.

Then I found it—a mentorship program that seemed perfect. The exact support I was looking for. I filled out the application, excited for the first time in months.

Until I got to the price: $10,000.

I sat there staring at the screen, feeling that familiar sinking feeling. The thing I needed most was completely out of reach. I couldn't afford it. And I was crushed.

But I refused to give up. If I couldn't afford mentorship, maybe I could create it for myself. So I started reaching out to women leaders in my community—asking questions, seeking advice, building relationships.

And I discovered something: I wasn't the only one struggling. My friends were searching for mentors too. Women everywhere were craving guidance, community, and support—but they didn't know how to find it.

That's when I started hosting a small monthly mentorship group in my clubhouse. Just a handful of women in leadership, gathering to support each other and share what we'd learned.

It wasn't official. It wasn't polished. But it was real. And it mattered.

2017: New Seasons, New Needs

Life shifted again. I was accepted into a PhD program (praise God!). I became a first-time mom. Everything changed overnight.

Once again, I found myself searching for mentors—this time to help me navigate motherhood, balance career and family, and figure out who I was becoming in this new season.

Mentorship wasn't just helpful. It was essential.

2018: Becoming the Mentor

The tables turned. During the summers, I started mentoring other women. I watched them come alive when someone simply listened, believed in them, and gave them practical next steps.

I saw the power of one conversation. One piece of advice. One person saying, "You can do this."

It planted a seed: What if more women had access to this?

2020: Becoming Official

After an outreach trip to Ghana, I felt God nudge me—It's time.

That year, in the middle of a global pandemic, Dream Mentorship became an official nonprofit. We started with just six women in our first cohort.

Six women who needed someone in their corner. Six women who had dreams but didn't know how to reach them. Six women who were willing to trust a brand-new program run by someone who was figuring it out as she went.

It was messy. It was scary. But it was the beginning of something beautiful.

2022: Growing Together

By 2022, our small group of six had grown to 83 women. Women from different cities, different backgrounds, different life stages—all coming together to dream, grow, and support each other.

We were learning what worked. What didn't. What women really needed from mentorship. And every cohort taught us something new.

2024: Scaling the Vision

Our community exploded to over 1,600 women. Women in 16 countries. Women from all walks of life. Women who were done waiting for permission to chase their dreams.

But with growth came a challenge: How do we give every woman the personal, quality mentorship they deserve?

That's when we developed our first in-house mentorship app prototype. A way to scale without losing the heart of what we do. A way to match women with the right mentors, track their progress, and build community—all in one place.

Now we're on a mission to build the first phase of this software and offer Christ-centered, accessible, affordable mentorship to women everywhere—especially those in hard-to-reach communities who need it most.

Why This Matters to Me

I'm a Nigerian-born woman. I know what it's like to dream big in a world that tells you your dreams are too big. I know what it's like to feel overlooked, underestimated, and unsure if you're "enough."

If a program like Dream Mentorship had existed when I was younger, it would've changed my life.

And that's why I'm building it now—so the next generation of women doesn't have to wonder if their dreams are valid. So they don't have to figure it out alone. So they have a community that says, "We see you. We believe in you. And we're here to help you get there."

Where We’re Headed

Dream Mentorship is a movement.

A movement that says every woman—regardless of zip code, bank account, or background—deserves mentorship. A movement that refuses to let another woman's dream die because she didn't have support. A movement that believes God has called each of us to something greater—and we're here to help you step into it.

My hope is that you'll join me in this mission. Whether as a mentee, a mentor, a donor, or a supporter—there's a place for you here.

Together, we can make mentorship accessible to every woman who needs it.

One life at a time. One dream at a time. One woman at a time.
